Isn´t it strange people say we should save the planet? That the planet will die off and humans will be left somehow stranded. I think the more accurate discription is- we will die off.
Like the defenders of international industrial corporations always say: There has been hundreds of cataclysms in earth´s history wiping out large areas of earth and bringing on ice ages. They say "So what harm can polluting the earth do? It´s just the easiest way to produce stuff and we don´t care about hippy stuff."
That is true, though how do you think your children would handle a cataclysm? But the fact is none of the biggest cataclysms ever occured when humans were inhabiting the earth. The last greatest one was supposedly the one that wiped out the dinosaurs.
Not smart animals, with brains the size of peanuts, but it took a meteor to wipe them out.
Now we, with the big brains are polluting our cities and water ways until alot of countries have to actually wear gas masks and purchase water. It seems like we are self destructing ourselves for the purpose of having some line of credit for each country balanced. I admit making money takes priority it is the purpose of living and never before has there been so much contradiction between one´s Job, transport and lifestyle compared with environmental ethics of today. So how can they be merged?
Forests are so important for every continent, in fact for just one city they can provide a natural airconditioner.
Why would we want to destroy such a useful system?
In cities like Hong kong and Sao paulo for example having forests can guarantee cooler temperatures in the summer and warmer temperatures in the winter catering to our needs perfectly.
What kind of people refuse to consider the advantages of having a forest near to great metropoles where the air is the dirtiest and the regions climate is directly affected by the excess of fumes and carbon pollutants?
To top it off what better place to spend leisure time? A clean river(relatively speaking), some parks and tracks.
In big cities young children are being subjected to more and more pollution, allergies are more common. Among other inbalances like lack of fresh air, in general a weaker more suceptible generation of children are being raised. So are we already sacrificing the new generation to our same laziness and cowardice!
When does the buck stop? Certainly not in the third world and the developed world fights for every right to continue to poison. Europe´s natural forests are almost non existant. With the rate that America rid itself of it´s natural forests they hardly have the right to impose logging sanctions on the third world.
Though it´s up to the third world to consider it. Industry comes first so until the developed world changes it´s expectations for consumption and modes of production there will be no change.
The planet will not directly die because of our lack of care and overexploitation. We will die!
When it is a question of harming the next generations health and security is it wise to continue polluting on the level we do? Is it wise to be logging the amount of native timbers we do? Let´s stop using the words "man made devatation" it´s not some man but all of us. And start taking some responsibility for our local environment.
Support world wide ways to improve the environment. Don´t buy the cheap arguements from short sighted politicians telling you that it´s all a hoax. Volcanos swamps and cow farts do pollute aswell, that´s no excuse to give up and say "Well nature naturally pollutes let´s not worry" and "We are part of nature" Yes we are a part but also seperate for human nature now dominates the earth. Nature has been polluting because thats how it balances itself.
